Applications for the CSPD Teacher Scholarship Program are now open and we’re checking in with our 2024 scholarship recipients.
We know the scholarship can make a big difference for our future teachers, but don’t just take our word for it! Meet Pedram, the second student in our series of Q&A profiles and find out what he has to say about the program.
Pedram Ali, Macquarie University, Bachelor of Secondary Education (English & HSIE)
Which schools (primary & secondary) did you attend?
I attended Merrylands Public School and St Pauls Catholic College in Greystanes.
Why did you decide to study teaching?
My decision to undertake a teaching degree came from a reflection of my time as a student in high school. As a student you get to witness firsthand the lengths a teacher will go to in order to help you reach your own goals in life, whether academic or personal, and also to realise your own potential. I hope to have this same impact on the students that I teach in the future.

What advice would you give to students who are thinking about applying for a CSPD Teacher Scholarship?
Go for it! Especially if you’re passionate about teaching. Whilst the scholarship provides financial assistance that can alleviate the pressures of uni life, it also opens doors to meeting so many new people, and building connections that will benefit you in both your personal and professional life.
What has been the best thing about being part of the scholarship program?
Without hesitation, meeting new people! University can be a daunting place, but building connections with people through the scholarship will definitely reduce the stress associated with starting your degree.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of your studies?
I really enjoy going for walks in the evening, reading psychological thrillers and watching Netflix (maybe too much!).
What is your favourite memory from your own school experience?
I’d have to say the year of my HSC, 2023, was probably one of my favourite years of schooling. Despite the difficulties and demands of exams, assignments and a major work, it was a year filled with memories that will last a lifetime. I’d have to say the best memories were made when I began participating in extracurricular activities such as debating, chess and public speaking.
