The beautiful part of Australia in which they live through the lenses of their cameras.

The school held a photography workshop which saw five students and nine parents attend. The focus was on landscape photography with specialist support on hand for Canon and Nikon users.

The workshop was held on a Saturday morning, starting at the school with some technical information about composition, aperture and shutter speed. This was followed by a drive to Wentworth Falls and a bush walk along a track to the beautiful waterfalls.

St Canice’s Principal and keen amateur photographer Mark Geerligs said this was a great opportunity for participants to listen to nature, frame their shots and enjoy the local environment. “We live in a beautiful part of Australia, let’s make sure we appreciate it and respect it.’’

“Feedback from participants was they found the work around composition very beneficial and a few of them even tried to get out of the auto mode and tried manual. People are very keen to join the next workshop in Term 4 around how to take great portraits outdoors.’’

“The school has a photographic exhibition each year and I thought it would be great to give people the opportunity to learn more about their cameras and how to take a great photo,” Mr Geerlings said.

The upcoming photographic exhibit will be displayed during the school’s ‘Sculptures at School’ exhibition on Sunday, June 23 until Saturday, June 29. The theme is ‘Environmental Story in the Blue Mountains’ and the style is photojournalism.
