Music programs on offer

The Classroom String Program is a classroom-based foundation method in string playing. Schools invest in a class set of instruments in the first year with CAPTIVATE providing the tutors and teaching resources for the delivery of the program. The program is taught in class streams and ideally is begun in Year 3 however, it can start in either Year 3, 4 or 5 (not Year 6). Individual and small group lessons outside of the classroom program are also available on a modest user pays basis.

CAPTIVATE provides professional tutors to build the skills base of generalist classroom teachers and/or music specialists within the school. This is subsidised in the first year. Support, follow-up and professional development is provided continually throughout the delivery of the program.

This program runs throughout the school year and culminates in a performance evening ‘Exhibition’ for school communities in Term 4.

Schools are required to purchase a class set of instruments and the program is taught during class time. CAPTIVATE coordinates the allocation of tutors across all schools in the program and subsidises the cost of tutors in the first year. Visual Arts programs on offer

For Primary schools a Teaching Artist in Residence works regularly with school communities to develop art works inspired by local cultures and curriculum topic areas.

Secondary students work with acclaimed Teaching Artists who provide professional advice to students working on their HSC visual arts major works. Each class is brought to life by having a living, breathing art resource who critiques major works and shares their experience as professional artists, linking students with industry contacts – something students would otherwise not have access too.

Schools interested in having a Teaching Artist in Residence should contact CAPTIVATE on 9840 5649 or send us an email.
